Help Young People Help Themselves - Be a Mentor! Making Connections Mentoring Program

Chicago Area Projects Newest Program Connecting Youth With Mentors

Help Young People Help Themselves—Be a Mentor!

Do you want to be the positive influence that helps a young person, ages 4-18, develop a vision for a better future? Chicago Area Project’s Making Connections: Mentoring Children of Prisoners Program needs you! Men and women over 18-years-old with a high school diploma or equivalent and the ability to be a positive role model are urged to apply to become a mentor in the program. Mentors make a one-year commitment to spend a minimum of four hours per month with their mentee. One time per month there will be a group activity at Sembrando el Futuro (SELF) in Humboldt Park or the Greater Roseland Community Committee. The mentor also plans one-on-one recreational, cultural and social activities that they can do with their young person. These activities can include going to the movies, museums, carnivals, etc. Want to do something interesting and important with you spouse? Since many of youth being recruited are brothers and sisters, married couples are encouraged to become mentor teams. For more information, contact Making Connections: Mentoring Children of Prisoners’ Coordinator Anthony Agee at 312-588-3848.

Is Your Dad or Mom in Prison?
Young people, ages 4-18, in the Humboldt Park or Greater Roseland communities who have a parent or other family member in prison are eligible to participate in Chicago Area Project’s Making Connections: Mentoring Children of Prisoners program. Participants will be paired up with and adult mentor who will be a positive influence providing leadership and stability in their lives. And it will be lots of fun. Group activities at Sembrando el Futuro (SELF) in Humboldt Park or at the Greater Roseland Community Committee will take place each month. In addition, there will be lots of one-on-one activities with your mentor—like going to the movies, to carnivals, museums and other fun stuff. Want to find out more? Call Making Connections: Mentoring Children of Prisoners’ Coordinator Anthony Agee at 312-588-3848.
