Financial Education Program

The  Chicago Area Project Financial Education program is a hands-on interactive program that teaches the participant how to be a better consumer.

The Financial Education Program (FEP) provides financial education to median, low-income families and individuals transitioning from welfare to work.

The FEP course is designed to teach the fundamentals of sound money management.  Individuals learn about designing a financial plan, managing income and credit saving to achieve financial goals, and protecting assets.  After completing the program, many individuals and families establish a regular savings, plan, open a checking account to track their spending and develop a budget to meet financial goals such as purchasing homes and college.

The program encourages participants to prioritize needs versus wants and to save money.  The FEP course educates participants to become educated consumers and eventually investors.

The FEP curriculum focuses on money management and how to assist consumers with making sounder spending choices once they have learned how to save more of their money.  It was designed to further meet the needs of those persons transitioning from welfare to work.

Everyone who earns and spends money should take the Chicago Area Project’s FEP class.  Especially those who receive public benefits through the Illinois Department of Human Services, IDHS) the Social Security Administration (SSA), Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) and Women Infants and Children (WIC) need to be offered this  curriculum.
